Antenna Experts provides GMDSS Antennas for shore station requirements for modern maritime communications in the low frequency, medium frequency, and high frequency radio bands. Critical operations in the MF and HF bands are typically associated with the communications requirements of the GMDSS, as well as traditional radiotelephone communications.


GMDSS Antenna manufactured by Antenna Experts are highly suitable for Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) communication equipments used to increase maritime safety and make it easier to rescue distressed ships, boats and aircraft. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) means important technological progress in radiocommunications in order to achieve an effective, fast and viable system to handle maritime distress and safety communications.


The GMDSS antenna system,considers the integration of different communication services, even simultaneously, in order to reduce the uncertainty of the abscence of a link through just one mean. The normalization of the information contained in the distress and safety messages provides the necessary data for the precise localization of the damaged vessel and for aid and rescue tasks. Simplification and automatization of the procedure for the generation of distress and safety calls.


The GMDSS antenna system is intended to perform the function of alerting (including position determination of the unit in distress), search and rescue coordination, locating (homing), maritime safety information broadcasts, general communications, and bridge-to-bridge communications. As part of the GMDSS and for the communication systems in VHF, MF and HF, Digital Selective Calling has been defined. This is an automatic calling system for ship-shore, shore-ship or ship-ship alerts.


Antenna Experts GMDSS Antenna Model ADY-156-162 is a dual stacked yagi antenna design reflects innovative modern antenna construction and designed to increase 3dBi gain in same direction whereas GMDSS Antenna Model ADYS-156-162 is a dual stacked yagi antenna to increase the coverage in different direction which can be installed in two different directions to cover a wider sector or in back to back configuration for bi-directional coverage. The dual stacked GMDSS yagi antenna is supplied with a stacking pipe, power divider and phasing harness cable as standard accessories.


The AC7-156-162 is a marine band GMDSS high gain fiber glass collinear antenna and designed to provide 7.5dBi gain over entire marine band 156-162 MHz. The high gain GMDSS marine band collinear antenna is supplied in two segments for easy of handling and shipping and can be assembled in the field without any hand tools.


The MC series VHF GMDSS marine band omni-directional Collinear Antenna is rugged all weather model uses high class brass and 6063T6 aluminum alloy and does not require any field tuning or adjustments. As discussed earlier Digital Selective Calling DSC is part of the GMDSS and it is used in this system mainly as an automatic calling system for distress alerts from ships and for the acknowledgment of receipt of the corresponding coastal stations.


All junctions of GMDSS marine band antenna are fully welded to prevent RF inter-modulation and antenna is completely protected within a high-tech ruggedized ABS or Fiber glass radome to ensure survivability in the worst environments.The ABS or Fiber Glass enclosure has excellent transparency for RF signals and enough strength to withstand specified wind loads of GMDSS Application.Please visit our "Marine Band Antenna" and "HF Broadband Dipole Antenna" section for more details on GMDSS antenna products datasheets and installation manual.


The MC series GMDSS marine band collinear antennas are center fed design which eliminates the distortion of the radiation pattern and ensures a true omni-directional horizontal pattern. The special stub matching is used for smooth VSWR and constant gain over the entire marine band of GMDSS Antenna. The GMDSS marine band collinear antennas are consist of large diameter brass radiating elements stacked vertically, fed in phase. The marine band GMDSS antenna termination is enclosed at bottom of the antenna for complete weather protection. The marine grade stainless steel mounting hardware is supplied with the GMDSS marine band antenna.


The HFW-230-36 is a 36 feet long, GMDSS broadband HF tactical whip antenna intended for use in high power electronic counter measure systems. The HFW is designed to operates in the 1.6 MHz to 30 MHz range with 1000 watts average power handling capacity The HFW-230-36 HF whip antenna is ideally suited for military shipboard use, as well as for fixed stations. Consisting of three section, heavy duty, military-grade aluminium whip antenna; it has a power rating of 1000 watts over the entire 1.5 to 30 MHz spectrum. It is supported by an integral mounting flange.


The HFW-230-36 GMDSS HF Whip antenna is made of 6063T6 ultra corrosion resistant architectural anodized aluminuim alloy, and does not require any field tuning. The overall length of HF Whip antenna HFW-230-36 is 36 feet long consisting of 3 sections. The antenna has N-Female is fixed at the lower section of antenna near mounting fixture/flange. The antenna provides low-angle gain in the vertical plane and omnidirection in the horizontal plane; the radiated energy is vertically polarized. The HF GMDSS whip antenna doesn't need any antenna tuning unit (ATU) for its operation.


GMDSS Marine band antenna can be supplied with 2 ways or 4 ways ratchet mounting hardware to enable the user to mount on the deck or on the side of wall.
